Once upon a time, Hilton Head Island was known as a retirement community, but I am happy to say we are much more. Not only do we open our arms to full time residents (single people of all ages, couples, families, and over $1.5 million tourists annually), we are very welcoming to DOGS! We have several hotels, rental companies, and owners that participate in VRBO (Vacation Rental By Owner) that are pet friendly.

Dogs on Hilton Head Island Beaches You are allowed to take your pets to the beaches here on our island; however, they are not allowed from 10am-5pm Memorial Day through Labor Day. To be real honest, it is just too hot for your animal to be on the beach during that time of the day so believe me, it is in the best interest of your pet! There is a transfer fee that is paid by the purchaser during a Hilton Head real estate closing. The amount is .0025 multiplied by your purchase price. This amount goes into a “slush fund” for the Town of Hilton Head to use towards purchasing land. I always love explaining this to clients when I take them around to look at property because I think this is something really special and unique about our island. We are Hilton Head Island, not Myrtle Beach. We do not want a condo development on every corner or a go-cart race track on an oceanfront piece of property.
